While marijuana can be added to all sorts of foods for medicating without smoking, baked goods require more than just adding pot. Twelve High Chicks thanks regular guest contributor Tracy Curley for providing us, and you, with her recipes for cannabutter and canna-oil. Try ’em yourself, but remember that everyone reacts differently to edibles. Please be careful with dosage, give edibles time to work, and don’t treat your munchies with more pot-filled food!

How to Make Cannabutter with Tracy Curley

  • 1 lb of butter
  • 1-2 oz. cannabis shake or cannabis flower (less can be used for a weaker butter)
  • Water (enough to cover butter and plant matter)
  • Large Pot or Crockpot/Slow Cooker
  • Strainer
  • Cheese Cloth
  • Large bowl or container (wide enough to hold strainer)
  • gloves

Place solid butter in crockpot/pot. Add dried cannabis, cover all with water.

Cook on low for 12-24hrs. Stir every few hours. Add more water as necessary to maintain coverage.

Let cool 3-4 hours.

Place strainer over bowl/container and cover with cheesecloth.

Strain contents of pot through cheesecloth and strainer.

Wrap residual plant matter within the cheesecloth and squeeze repeatedly until all liquid is in bowl. (Butter will absorb through skin so I recommend wearing gloves when squeezing plant matter.)

Cover container and refrigerate for 12 hours.

The water and butter will have separated and the butter will be hardened on top.

Cut out the layer of butter, absorb water on bottom of butter with more cheesecloth.

Dispose of water.

Store cannabutter in glass or plastic airtight container.

 

How To Make Infused Canna-oil with Tracy Curley

  • 2 cups of cooking oil of your choice per
  • 1/2 cup ground cannabis aka bud flour (shake/bud ground in coffee/spice grinder)
  • Large Pot or Crockpot/Slow Cooker
  • Strainer
  • Cheese Cloth
  • Large bowl or container (wide enough to hold for strainer)
  • gloves

Add oil and bud flour to crockpot or large pot.

Cook on low for 2-6 hours.

Allow to cool.

Line strainer with cheesecloth over clean storage container.

Strain oil and bud mixture through cheesecloth.

Store oil in clean mason jar.
